If your period has lasted for nearly 4 weeks, it is important to see a doctor as soon as possible. Heavy or prolonged bleeding can be a sign of a medical condition, such as a hormonal imbalance or an infection.
Going to the doctor does not mean you will have to have any painful procedures. If the doctor needs to do a physical exam, it will be confidential and done in a way that respects your privacy. It's important that the doctor has accurate information to be able to give the best treatment.
Here are a few things you can do to prepare for your visit to the doctor:
- Write down your symptoms, including how long you've been bleeding, how heavy your bleeding is, and any other symptoms you've experienced.
- Make a list of your medical history, including any medications you're taking.
- Try to relax and be honest with your doctor about your concerns.
The doctor can then perform tests and examinations to determine what's causing your abnormal period and recommend the best course of treatment. This could include medication, lifestyle changes, or other treatments.
