What to Take for a Bladder Infection
Bladder infections are actually a type of urinary tract infection since the inside lining of the bladder becomes swollen from inflammation. A bacterium causes a bladder infection, and it can be detected by a physician if you submit a urine sample. A special stick is inserted into the urine, and if bacteria is present, the stick will change colors. If you are positive for a bladder infection, you should not wait for it to go away on its own.-
Fluids
-
Drink cranberry juice. This juice is well known for supporting good kidney and bladder health. When you are not drinking the cranberry juice, you should drink only water. Water cleanses your body and helps to flush out any impurities that may be causing your bladder infection.
Pain Relievers
-
Take two extra strength Tylenols every 4-6 hours as needed for the pain. If you prefer to use Advil or Motrin, you would take one tablet every 6-8 hours as needed. These pain relievers will offer you some relief so that you can urinate without pain. Another plus is that these products are also fever reducers (fevers often accompany bladder infections).
Antibiotics
-
Get a prescription for some antibiotics from your doctor. The antibiotic will work to kill the bacteria. Your doctor will tell you the proper dosage and when to take the antibiotic. It is important to remember to finish the entire bottle of antibiotics unless instructed otherwise. You may want to take the antibiotic with food if it upsets your stomach. You should also consider eating a yogurt while on the antibiotics to replace the good bacteria that is killed by the antibiotics.
