Kidney Stone Remedies

Kidney stones can be extremely painful and cannot be tolerated for long without searching for a remedy. Normally, these stones are not harmful unless they are more than 6 mm. If less than 6 mm, the stone can pass through the urinary tract all on its own. In order to ease this unbearable pain, there are different remedies available.
  1. Fluids

    • Drink plenty of fluids to help you pass the kidney stone. The more fluids you drink, the better your chance of passing the stone on your own.

    Foods to Avoid

    • Stay away from oxalate-rich foods, such as chocolate, beans, blueberries, grapes, green peppers, spinach, strawberries, celery and tea. They are high in calcium, and a majority of kidney stones are formed from calcium.

    Foods to Eat

    • Eat plenty of food with vitamin A, such as apricots, broccoli, cantaloupes, pumpkins and beef liver. This vitamin helps to keep kidney stones from forming, while it lines the urinary tract.

    Exercise

    • Being inactive can cause calcium to form in a person's bloodstream. Exercise and being active can help draw the calcium back into the bones.

    Procedure

    • Several different surgery-type procedures can remedy a kidney stone. The most common and less invasive is the lithotripsy, a procedure that uses shock waves to break up a large stone into smaller pieces, making it easier to pass.
