Can a dialysis patient be in the heat?

While dialysis patients can go outside in the summer months, they still need to be aware of the potential risks associated with heat exposure. In hot weather, dialysis patients should take precautions to stay cool and hydrated, such as:

- Dressing in lightweight, loose-fitting clothing

- Wearing sunscreen

- Limit your time in the sun

- Use an umbrella for shade

- Stay in air-conditioned environments

- Drink plenty of fluids, especially water

- Monitor their blood pressure and blood sugar levels

- Avoid strenuous exercise

- Take breaks from the heat.
