Signs & Symptoms of Kidney Stone Blockage
Kidney stones are solid deposits of calcium that originate in the urinary tract and create blockages so urine can no longer pass. They can be extremely painful, and there aren’t many symptoms of a kidney stone until the process is already well underway. Some people will pass kidney stones on their own, while other times surgery is needed to correct the problem. There are also some instances where more serious damage such as kidney failure is experienced.-
Sharp Cramping Pains
-
People suffering from kidney stones may suddenly feel serious cramping in their lower back and side, especially around the kidney area. Sometimes severe pain can also be found in the lower abdomen when a kidney stone is large. If the stone cannot easily pass through the urinary tract, the pain continues and can travel to the groin area, getting worse as the stone continues to pass.
Nausea and Vomiting
-
Feeling sick to the stomach is a common symptom of kidney stones, but vomiting is not always accompanied by feelings of nausea and usually isn’t experienced unless the kidney stones are too large to pass through the system.
Urine Symptoms
-
As a kidney stone gets closer to passing through the urinary tract, additional symptoms may present themselves, including blood in the urine, turning the urine pink and feeling the need to urinate more often than normal.
Infection
-
At any time a kidney infection can occur. If any kidney stone symptoms are accompanied by chills or a fever, chances are an infection has developed and a physician should be consulted.
