Definition of Intrarenal Renal Failure

When your kidneys work properly, they balance your electrolytes, like salt and water, and remove waste products from your blood. However, problems with your kidneys can occur. Intrarenal, also known as intrinsic, acute renal failure (ARF) impairs your kidney function.
  1. Significance

    • Acute renal failure occurs when excess fluids, waste products and electrolytes build up in your body instead being filtered from your body.

    Definition

    • Intarenal ARF happens when there’s damage or injury to your kidneys which results in loss of function, according to Nephrology Channel.

    Causes

    • According to the American Urological Association Foundation, intrinsic ARF results from medication such as penicillin, or disease like acute tubular necrosis (ATN), acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) and acute glomerulonephritis (AGN).

    Symptoms

    • Symptoms of intrinsic ARF are rash, flank pain and confusion, according to Nephrology Channel.

    Treatment

    • Proper function of your kidneys can be restored with treatment. This occurs when your doctor treats the underlying causes, like high blood pressure, toxins or trauma.
