Uremic Syndrome Vs. Acute Renal Failure
Acute renal failure is the sudden loss of kidney function. However, uremic syndrome, or uremia, is a complication of ARF and chronic renal failure which affects any part of your body.-
Function
-
When your kidneys are healthy, they filter waste products from your blood. You expel these toxins via urine.
Uremic Syndrome
-
Uremic syndrome occurs when waste products accumulate in your body. These waste products, like urea, become toxic if they are allowed to reach high levels, according to Yahoo! Health.
Acute Renal Failure
-
ARF happens after complicated surgery or trauma, according to the American Urological Association Foundation. Complications include toxins in your body, blocked blood vessels to your kidneys or blocked urine flow.
Uremic Syndrome Symptoms
-
Symptoms of uremic syndrome include heart problems, shortness of breath from pleural effusion and spontaneous or heavy bleeding from a minor injury. You may experience loss of appetite, confusion and vomiting.
Treatment
-
ARF requires treatment for the underlying cause of your kidney impairment. However, uremic syndrome treatment requires kidney dialysis to alleviate symptoms.
