Instructions

    • 1

Drink 8 to 10 cups of water each day. This is actually the regular recommendation for daily intake of water. Drinking large amounts of water will help flush the kidney stone out and stop another from forming.

    • 2

Urinate into a jar or through a strainer for the next three days. There are special strainers to buy for this purpose. You will need to bring your kidney stone into the doctor so that it can be studied and a type can be determined. Knowing the type of kidney stone will help your doctor give you instructions on how to avoid one in the future.

    • 3

Ease your pain by taking over-the-counter painkillers, or your doctor may prescribe something for the pain. Either way, take the medication according to the directions on the label.

    • 4

Keep moving. Exercise actually will encourage the kidney stone to pass. Although you may want to lie in bed, resting will slow down the process and prolong your pain.
