1
Alert your primary care doctor of your kidney troubles. If you have kidney stones, infections or are experiencing acute kidney failure, notify your doctor and ask for a referral to a nephrologist. After receiving the referral, make an appointment with a specialist in your area or one who comes very highly recommended.
-
2
Make a list of the symptoms you are experiencing. For instance, if you have bloody stool, are bruising easily and are prone to kidney issues, write these symptoms down. This list will help you to remember important reactions and symptoms you are currently exhibiting and will also help the specialist narrow down the cause.
-
3
Ask questions. Before heading to your appointment, make a list of questions you have for the doctor. This list could involve surgical questions, as well as any questions you may have about the doctor's experience with your specific problem
-
4
Write down all medications you may be taking so the doctor can be sure what the best method of care is for you. This guide will help them to know what you can and can't take, possible allergies and/or what may be causing kidney issues.
-
5
Include any information about your medical history, whether anyone in your family has the same health issues and all other health information you think will assist the doctor in helping you.
Notify the doctor of any change in your appetite, mental status and bowel movements, as these all may be signs of more serious kidney trouble. Also bring any previous lab results, CT scans, blood work information to your appointment and inform the doctor of dietary restrictions.
