Information About Davita Dialysis Training

DaVita offers patients with kidney problems resulting in the need for dialysis, the opportunity to conduct their dialysis at home or under the supervision of trained nurses at a DaVita dialysis center.
  1. Dialysis

    • There are two forms of dialysis, peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis that perform some of the tasks usually completed by the kidneys. When the kidneys can no longer clean and filter waste and impurities from the body, dialysis uses cleansing fluids to flush out impurities, according to the Mayo Clinic.

    Training

    • The decision to allow a dialysis patient to conduct their own dialysis treatment at home is taken by the doctor treating the patient. DaVita requires candidates for home dialysis to have enough manual dexterity and vision to complete the task associated with dialysis and basic reading and writing skills to complete the required paperwork.

    Length

    • Training is administered by DaVita dialysis nurses who assist each patient and the patient's partner as they dialyze at a DaVita dialysis center with the assistance of training manuals. Training for peritoneal dialysis is usually completed in about two weeks, while hemodialysis is completed in an average of between six and eight weeks.
