Are mites a vector transmitted disease?
Mites are not classified as vectors of disease transmission like mosquitoes or ticks. Mites can cause skin infestations or dermatitis in humans and animals, commonly referred to as scabies or chiggers. However, they do not directly transmit infectious diseases through their bites. Some mites may carry microorganisms, but they are usually not known to transmit these microorganisms and cause significant illnesses. Unlike diseases such as malaria transmitted by mosquitoes or Lyme disease transmitted by ticks, mites are primarily skin parasites.
