Does lone star ticks carry lyme diseases?
Lone star ticks (Amblyomma americanum) do not carry or transmit Lyme disease. Lyme disease is primarily transmitted by blacklegged ticks (Ixodes scapularis) and western blacklegged ticks (Ixodes pacificus) in the United States. These ticks are commonly found in wooded and grassy areas in certain regions of the country.
Lone star ticks are known to transmit other diseases, including ehrlichiosis, tularemia, and Heartland virus. If you are bitten by a lone star tick, it's important to seek medical attention if you develop any symptoms of illness.
