What do syphilis and lyme disease have in common?

Both syphilis and Lyme disease are caused by bacteria. Syphilis is caused by Treponema pallidum, while Lyme disease is caused by the species of bacteria Borrelia. In addition, syphilis and Lyme disease both have several stages with different symptoms.
