How to Operate a BiPAP Vision Machine

Connect the oxygen tubing from an exhalation port on the face mask to the flow meter, also located on the mask.

Plug the cord into an outlet.

Turn on the machine with the power switch.

Press the button labeled "Test Exhalation Port." Follow any other prompts that may appear on the display screen and then wait for the "Test Complete" to appear on the screen.

Press the "Monitoring" button to begin operation.

Adjust the BiPAP settings to correspond with the physician's orders. Press the "Parameters" button and use the control knob to select a different setting. To confirm the new setting, press the "Monitoring" button.

Change the mode setting with the "Mode" button. Confirm the new mode with the "Activate New Mode" button.

Change the alarm settings with the "Alarm" button. Use the control knob to adjust the settings; then confirm the settings with the "Monitoring" button.

Place the face mask on the patient's face. The BiPAP Vision face mask has a strap that wraps around the head at the forehead, as well one that connects on either side of the mouth. The mask should fit snugly, ideally with no air leaks.

Stay with the patient for 15 to 30 minutes to ensure that he adjusts to the machine. If the patient appears uncomfortable or if he is having problems adjusting, contact the doctor. The doctor may decide to change the BiPAP's settings.
