How to Take Care of Itchy Dandruff Hair

Hair is made from thousands of tiny compiled proteins and amino acids. Deep in the scalp, the hair root pulls vitamins from the body that you have provided via food and drink. Hair consists of a material called keratin, which is also what is used to make your nails. When a person has itchy or dandruff hair, their scalp is often oily and unable to shed dead skin cells proficiently. Dandruff should be treated to avoid an itchy scalp, which may lead to embarrassing moments of scratching and flaking in the presence of others.

Instructions

  1. Topical Treatment

    • 1

Combine 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar with 3 cups of water in a large bowl. Blend together with a spoon.

    • 2

Pour the mixture into an old shampoo bottle and discard any excess amount.

    • 3

Apply the mixture to your hair generously over the skin or bathtub. Wrap your head in a towel or cover with a shower cap and leave for 20 to 30 minutes.

    • 4

Rinse out your hair for two to three minutes, and then dry your hair as normal. Repeat the treatment once a week while shampooing with a pyrithione zinc, medicated shampoo daily.

    Daily Activities

    • 5

Clip back your hair to keep it from your face instead of using a ponytail. Excessive ponytail use will put strain on the follicles and lead to dry scalp. The scalp will then flake and itch from unnecessary stress.

    • 6

Refrain from wearing a ball cap or other hat that can oppress the hair and the scalp. By not allowing the scalp to breath, you may cause too much oil to build up on the scalp. The oil will lead to more dandruff and prevent the medicated shampoo or weekly treatment from ever truly affecting the problem.

    • 7

Shampoo with medicated shampoo to help the scalp effectively shed dead skin cells. An oily, dandruff scalp is the result of the skin's inability to shed dead skin cells properly. By assisting your scalp, the oil residue and layers of flakes are removed daily and can alleviate dandruff altogether.
