How to Help Stinky Feet

1
Wash your feet thoroughly with antibacterial soap. Since odors may be attributed to bacteria, an antibacterial soap will kill the stink right at the source. Thoroughly dry your feet with a clean towel afterward; a damp foot is fertile ground for bacteria.
-
2
Soak your feet in a black-tea solution. Let two tea bags steep in a pint of boiling water for about 10 minutes. Let the solution cool and immerse your feet for 30 to 45 minutes. Again, be sure to dry your feet afterward. A naturally-occurring acid found in the tea should help ease foot odor over time.

3
Use odor-eliminating sprays. Available at drugstores nationwide, foot sprays and powders may help neutralize odors. These sprays and powders work as deodorants, soaking up and masking unwanted smells throughout the day.
-
4
Always wear socks. Going sockless can promote foot odor. Wear cotton socks, recommended by podiatrists because they breathe and help absorb sweat and odors.
-
5
Alternate your shoes. Wearing the same pair every day will make it difficult for the shoes to air out and deodorize. Wear leather or canvas shoes. Avoid plastic shoes, which have a tendency to promote foot odors. Choose sandals over closed-toed shoes when possible; sandals give your feet more air exposure to help keep them from perspiring.

Consult a podiatrist if foot odors become unmanageable. She may be able to prescribe medication or treatments to alleviate the problem. In rare instances, the specialist may severe nerves in the foot to prevent sweating and control odors.
