    Treatment

    • The type of treatment used for lung cancer depends on the type and stage of cancer, along with the symptoms and their effect on the patient.

      Treatment for lung cancer includes surgery to remove the tumor and lymph nodes, offering the greatest chance of survival; chemotherapy to destroy the cancer cells in the body and stop them from reproducing and growing; and radiation therapy, which uses high energy rays to kill or minimize cancerous cells in the body.

      Chemotherapy produces a plethora of side effects, including infections, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, sores in the mouth, decreased appetite, and bleeding. Radiation treatment may have side effects such as problems eating, hair loss, fatigue and skin problems.

    New Treatment Possibilities

    • Genelux is conducting research on a new type of cancer treatment that may be able to eradicate cancer tumors. GL-ONC1 is an oncolytic (cancer cell destruction) virus that is used to hone in on cancer cells and cause them to disintegrate. This virus has already been successful in destroying human cancerous cells in animals with no side effects.

    Clinical

    • Clinical trials of GL-ONC1 have recently begun in the United Kingdom. During this trial, researchers will study the side effects and tolerability of GL-ONC1, which will be administered intravenously, according to clincaltrials.gov.
