Signs and Symptoms of Fatigue and Dizziness

Fatigue and dizziness can strike anyone at any given time. These signs and symptoms could be the onset of another illness or isolated incidents of stress. Managing spells of fatigue and dizziness means managing stress levels, getting plenty of rest and regular exercise. Some signs and symptoms of fatigue and dizziness are the same.
  1. Fatigue

    • Fatigue is one of the most common health problem people experience---with about 20 percent of Americans suffering from this condition. General fatigue can develop into chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Fatigue means not having energy or an absence of energy. Other names for fatigue are weariness, tiredness, exhaustion and lethargy. A fatigued person is not a drowsy person but may feel drowsiness with fatigue. Signs and symptoms of fatigue include: lack of energy, palpitations, shortness of breath, unexplained weight changes, irregularities in the menstrual cycle, enlarged lymph nodes under the arm or in the neck, and pain in the head, chest or stomach. Other signs of fatigue include: diarrhea, constipation, muscle cramps, cough or easy bruising. The fatigued person can also feel dizzy.

    Dizziness

    • Dizziness is a feeling of lightheadedness or unsteadiness. Dizziness is also very common in adults and is reported regularly on doctor's visits. Dizziness does not indicate serious illness, but is physically debilitating and makes it difficult to function on a daily basis. Signs and symptoms of dizziness include: wooziness, loss of balance, difficulty concentrating and blurred vision. The person experiencing dizziness can also be fatigued.

    Associated Signs and Symptoms

    • One symptom that is common in both fatigue and dizziness is vertigo--- a false sense of movement or spinning. Other signs and symptoms associated with both fatigue and dizziness include: weakness, nausea and fainting or lightheadedness.
