Lowering Serotonin Levels
-
1
Poor diet and exercise can cause severe drops in serotonin levels, regardless of age or weight. Inadequate exercise and immobility, coupled with regular anxiety, can bring down these levels. Diets consisting of low-carbohydrate, high-protein meals can also lower serotonin amounts.

2
Lack of sunlight is another leading cause of low serotonin levels. If you are constantly indoors or not exposed to sunlight for long periods of time, serotonin levels can drop. This is a major cause of depression during the winter.

High levels of stress are also a common cause of low serotonin levels. Anxiety, depression or even a hectic schedule can contribute to the problem. Try to take some time each day to relax and meditate.

Diet pills, narcotics, pain medication or prescription drugs may cause serotonin levels to drop in some individuals. Ask your doctor about your medications' effects on serotonin levels.
