What Are the Causes of Jaundice & Dizziness?

Jaundice is a yellow coloring of the skin, mucus membranes and eyes from bilirubin or retired red blood cells that have not been disposed by the liver. Dizziness may have several different causes and is usually unrelated to jaundice.

Breastfeeding Jaundice Causes

• According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, infants may develop breastfeeding jaundice during the first week of life due to inadequate intake of breast milk.

Childhood Jaundice Causes

• Children may develop jaundice from malaria, hepatitis or hemolytic anemia. Congenital disorders such as Gilbert syndrome, Dubin-Johnson syndrome or Rotor syndrome can cause jaundice in children.

Adult Jaundice Causes

• Adults may develop jaundice from alcoholic liver disease, pancreatic cancer, hepatitis and blocked bile ducts.

Vertigo Dizziness Causes

• According to the Mayo Clinic, vertigo is a false sense of spinning motion or dizziness that may be caused by inflammation in the inner ear, Meniere’s disease or migraines. A benign growth on the vestibular nerve or rapid changes in motion such as a roller coaster or airplane ride may cause dizziness.

Other Causes of Dizziness

• Dizziness may be caused by drops in blood pressure, insufficient blood output from a person’s heart or anxiety disorders. Hyperventilation may cause dizziness to develop.
