Age & Thinning Pubic Hair

For many people, pubic hair thins out as they age. This can be the side effect of certain conditions and behaviors or can just be a natural part of the maturation process.
  1. Normal Aging

    • In most cases, thinning pubic hair can be attributed to the natural aging process. Much like you can lose your head hair as you age, you can lose your pubic hair as well.

    Menopause

    • Menopause can cause you to lose your pubic hair. This can happen right before or right after menopause. This is due to hormonal changes that affect hair growth. If it seems like you haven't stopped losing your pubic hair after you go through menopause, then you may want to consult your physician and have your hormone levels checked. Most women don't lose all of their pubic hair.

    Pregnancy

    • During pregnancy every hair on your body can be affected. Pregnancy can cause hair such as your pubic hair to start to cycle together and grow all at once, and then they can shed all at once, causing you to lose your pubic hair. This can happen within six months of delivery. If the issue continues, you should see a doctor and have your thyroid tested, as it can change during pregnancy.

    Other Reasons

    • You also may have thinning pubic hair because of a thyroid problem. Thinning pubic hair can also occur in people of any age due to hormonal or nutritional deficiencies, or by certain medications.

    Regrowing Pubic Hair

    • Sometimes pubic hair grows back naturally as hormonal, thyroid or nutritional balance is restored to the body. If it doesn't return, you can use prescription topical creams or get surgical hair transplants.
