Bedsore Prevention
-
Bedsores can lead to infection and can hasten death, as well as causing unspeakable suffering that is compounded by the patient's helplessness. You can try a number of remedies for this painful ailment. The Mayo Clinic says one of the best ways to prevent bedsores is to keep shifting the patient's position every couple of hours or so. This is not always possible, if you can't turn the patient physically. The use of creams is another solution to the problem, according to the American Journal of Nursing. The basic idea behind applying creams is to moisten the area where bedsores form, to replenish dead skin and to cool the area.
Aloe Vera
-
Aloe vera can help prevent and treat bedsores. This cream helps by cooling the skin, increasing blood flow. For best results with this cream, turn the patient to the side. Wash the back with water and apply the cream at least three times a day. This can help prevent the formation of bed sores and help treat the wounds associated with bed sores. Milk of magnesia may also be helpful in reducing swelling and redness. Like aloe vera, milk of magnesia also has to be applied three times a day.
Nappy Rash Cream
-
The American Journal of Nursing says nappy rash cream can be effective because of its mild, steroid-free content. Like the other creams, it should be applied three times daily on areas prone to bedsores. The deficiency of oxygen that causes bedsores has to be resolved, and this cream can encourage blood and oxygen to flow to the area, preventing bedsores and providing temporary relief when you have bedsores.
