Bronchial Disorders

Bronchial disorders are conditions that effect the lungs. These conditions can range from mild to severe and may hinder common activities.
  1. Types

    • Two of the most common types of bronchial disorders are bronchitis and bronchiectasis. Bronchitis is defined as inflammation in the main air passages to the lungs, and bronchiectasis occurs when the large airways widen, causing damage.

    Causes

    • Most bronchial disorders are caused by inflammation or infection in the airways. This can cause damage to the lungs, resulting in permanent disorders.

    Symptoms

    • Symptoms of bronchial disorders include wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest pain, fatigue and a chronic cough.

    Diagnosis

    • In order to diagnose bronchial disorders, doctors take a CT scan and X ray of the chest to check for any obstruction in the airways.

    Treatment

    • Most bronchial disorders are chronic. Treatment goals include clearing the airways and assisting the patient in breathing. Inhalers and antibiotics that will clear the airways are often prescribed as treatment for the conditions.
