How to Cure or Reverse Acidosis

Acidosis occurs when acids build or bases are lost in the body. Many different types of acidosis fall under two main categories: respiratory acidosis and metabolic acidosis. If left without treatment, acidosis begins to erode the bones and can even cause organ failure. Curing or reversing the disease depends on the type that you have, but with some knowledge you can soon have a healthy and functioning body.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin taking care of yourself right away if you think you have acidosis. Some types of the disease can be caused by malnutrition, smoking, excessive drinking, severe exercise and diabetes. Eating a well-balanced diet, exercising and drinking moderately could begin to reverse your acidosis.

    • 2

Make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. All types of acidosis should be diagnosed and the underlying cause found. A simple blood and urine test will help indicate which parts of your body are suffering from the disease.

    • 3

Treat the underlying cause according to the doctor's recommendations. Some cures may be as simple as to stop smoking, which will help cure respiratory acidosis. Other times, especially with metabolic acidosis, the doctor will prescribe sodium bicarbonate (a base), which will neutralize your blood. If you follow directions, your acidosis could begin to reverse.
