1
Wear compression stockings. You can purchase them at your local drugstore or medical-supply center. You should wear them the entire day. Compression stockings compress the veins in your legs, promoting better blood flow, which helps decrease the appearance of fat veins.

2
Talk to your doctor about sclerotherapy. In this procedure, the doctor injects a solution into the varicose vein, which closes off the vein. Veins fade within two to three weeks of the injection.

3
Discuss with your doctor if you would be a good candidate for laser surgery. Bursts of high-powered light are directed onto the enlarged vein. The procedure is non-invasive and is performed in an outpatient setting. Veins fade and disappear within two to four weeks of treatment.

Ask your doctor about vein stripping. You lie on a table as your doctor makes several small incisions in the fat vein. The vein is then pulled and removed from the leg. Circulation is not a concern, as veins deep inside the leg take over for the removed vein. Vein stripping is done on an outpatient basis.
