Determining Low Motility
-
1
Consult your doctor who can test the sperm for motility. Low sperm motility is determined by observing the swimming pattern of the sperm. Often, the sperm will have a diminished capacity to swim forward in a straight line, or it will not have the energy to penetrate the cervical mucus or egg.

2
Buy supplements. The man can take nutritional supplements that include proteins L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine. According to an Oregon State University research project, "Oral L-carnitine supplementation (3 grams/day) for three to four months significantly improved sperm motility. However, no information on subsequent fertility was reported."

3
Purchase an ovulation test. The woman can help out by testing her ovulation cycle. By ensuring that an egg is available at the time you are trying to become pregnant, you have more of a chance of succeeding by knowing when the best time to conceive arrives.
