How to Treat Sinus Headache With High Blood Pressure

Instructions

  1. Use Acetaminophen

    • 1

Use acetaminophen to treat the pain of a sinus headache. According to the makers of Tylenol, acetaminophen has not been shown to affect blood pressure medications.

    • 2

Take the recommended dosage of acetaminophen; taking too much can cause liver problems.

    • 3

Talk to your doctor if the sinus headache persists for more than 10 days after taking acetaminophen.

    Use a Neti Pot

    • 4

Purchase a neti pot from a pharmacy to naturally relieve sinus pain, congestion and discharge.

    • 5

Make a saline (saltwater) solution using home ingredients. Mix 1 cup of warm water with a 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt. Dissolve the salt completely and pour into the neti pot.

    • 6

Place the neti pot on one of the nostrils and tilt the head so the chin is parallel to the shoulders. Allow the solution to enter the nostril and empty into the nasal cavity, coming out of the other nostril.

    • 7

Gently blow the nose and repeat on the other side.

    Use a Warm Compress

    • 8

Use a damp, warm compress to moisten, soothe and relieve pain in the sinus cavity.

    • 9

Run a wash cloth under hot water for 20 to 30 seconds. Ring it out so the wash cloth is not dripping wet but is still damp. Add a few drops of peppermint oil to the cloth.

    • 10

Lie down on your back and place the warm compress directly on the eyes and nose.

    • 11

Keep the wash cloth warm and damp for 20 to 30 minutes. Repeat as often as needed.
