How to Use Baking Soda to Cure Thrush

Thrush is a fungal infection called candidiasis. It is most commonly seen in infants and small children, but it can infect adults as well. Thrush presents as small white patches in the mouth. The patches look like cottage cheese and can appear on the tongue as well as the roof of the mouth. Thrush is painful and can cause your child to refuse food. Treat the thrush with a common home remedy that uses baking soda.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 drop dish soap
  • Spoon
  • Clean cloth

Instructions

      Mix the baking soda and water together until the baking soda has dissolved.

      Add one drop of dish soap to the baking soda water and mix again.

      Pour some of this mixture on a clean cloth and wipe inside of your baby's mouth with it. Make sure that you get the tongue as well as the roof of the mouth.

      Repeat this procedure four to six times each day until the thrush has cleared up.
