Sodium Chloride Tablets Information

Sodium chloride, or salt, tablets are available over the counter and by prescription for people who are experiencing low sodium levels that result from dehydration, excess sweating and other conditions that result in sodium depletion.

Significance

• Sodium chloride is necessary for regulating water distribution between cells in the body and is necessary for nervous system and muscle functioning. Sodium chloride tablets are available to help ensure that sodium levels do not become too low.

Symptoms

• Symptoms of insufficient sodium intake include confusion, tiredness, nausea and muscle spasms. If you experience these symptoms, consult your doctor. In cases of extremely low sodium levels, coma or death may occur.

Hyponatremia

• Hyponatremia is a medical condition that results in low sodium levels in the blood. Individuals with poor kidney functioning, cirrhosis of the liver, heart failure, certain types of cancer and pituitary disorders have an increased risk of hyponatrema.

Side Effects
