Nausea & Upper Abdominal Pain

Upper abdominal pain accompanied by nausea can be the result of many medical conditions and even environmental conditions such as poorly prepared food. Some of these may require medical intervention, some do not and just need to work their way through the person's system.
  1. Food poisoning

    • Food poisoning from eating undercooked or ill prepared food is a common cause of upper abdominal pain and nausea.

    Gastroenteritis

    • Also known as the stomach flu, it can cause severe stomach pain and intense nausea with vomiting.

    Ulcers

    • Ulcers that develop in the duodenum (the beginning of the small intestine) or somewhere along the stomach lining are known to cause pain and nausea.

    Gastritis

    • Gastritis is an upset stomach caused by an inflammation of the stomach lining, usually caused by over consumption of alcohol or aspirin.

    Pancreatitis

    • When the pancreas becomes inflamed due to illness or overconsumption of alcohol, it can cause pain and nausea.

    Gallbladder disease

    • The gallbladder is located in the upper right hand of the stomach and when it is diseased with stones, can cause nausea and significant pain.
