Quick Cures for Diarrhea

Over-the-counter Medications

There are medications available that can quick the uncomfortable condition. Common over-the-counter diarrhea medications include Pepto-Bismol, Kaopectate and Immodium A-D, all of which have generic and store-brand equivalents. Be sure to thoroughly read and follow the directions on the label to make sure you are using the medication properly.
Fluids

Dehydration can become a concern while suffering from diarrhea, so it is important to replace lost fluids. Drink at least six 8-ounce glasses of fluid each day. Many different types of fluids will help keep you hydrated, such as water, caffeine-free soda, tea or coffee, and broths. Some fruit juices can help too, but avoid apple and pear juice, which can make diarrhea worse. In severe cases, you may want to try an electrolyte solution such as Gatorade or Pedialyte to replace lost electrolytes.
Antibiotics

In cases of diarrhea caused by parasitic or bacterial infections, antibiotics will typically be prescribed. Antibiotics, however, to not work on viral infections. When taking antibiotics, be sure to take all the prescribed medication even if you begin feeling better within a few days. If you do not finish all the prescribed medication, the infection can return.
