Home Remedy for a Stuffy Head
For a stuffy head or nose, over-the-counter medications such as antihistamines and decongestants can help with symptoms. However, some of the most effective treatments to relieve congestion are easily handled at home. Most are free or quite inexpensive to prepare.-
Foods and Drinks That Help Relieve Congestion
-
Some of the oldest remedies are the best, such as chicken soup. Try it for a stuffy head. Another way to relieve a stuffed- up nose is to eat spicy foods. They make your nose run, and they clear up the congestion. Any hot drink will help with congestion as well, plus the liquids are important to help fight the stuffiness. However, some mint tea sweetened with honey will feel especially soothing.
Other Treatments to Relieve Congestion

Saline nose drops are most helpful and can be used frequently, unlike medicated nose drops. Also, using a neti pot can ease congestion and help fight off infection by clearing out nasal passages. You can buy one at a pharmacy or health store. Basically, it's a little device meant to wash out the nasal passages. You pour water into one nostril, and it rinses through to the other side. One of the best remedies is the simplest. Boil water and pour into a bowl. Drape a towel over your head, lean over the bowl and breathe in the steam. For added help, put in some mentholated or aromatic mixture as well. You can repeat this a few times a day as needed. Run a humidifier in your home, especially in the bedroom, as the night can be the worst time for congestion. Sleep with your head elevated, too.
