Systematic Die-Off Symptoms of a Yeast Infection

Yeast, or candida, is a fungus that occurs naturally in the body and is needed to maintain the correct balance of bacteria in body systems. However, certain conditions can cause the yeast to grow out of control, causing a variety of health problems.
  1. Yeast Overgrowth

    • Yeast infections can affect men, women and children of all ages. The infections can develop in the genital area, skin folds and mouth. Any place that is warm and moist is a perfect environment for yeast growth. Sometimes, yeast can grow within the intestinal tract, causing stomach discomfort and diarrhea.

    Die-off

    • When yeast is treated, it can sometimes cause "die-off" symptoms, which are the toxins dying at a rapid rate. It's also called a Herxheimer reaction.

    Symptoms

    • Symptoms can include headaches, nasal congestion, aches and pains, rashes (particularly in skin folds), fatigue, diarrhea or constipation, and vaginal irritation or discharge.

    Treatment

    • YeastInfectionSymptoms.org recommends that patients listen to their bodies during this die-off reaction and remember that to get better, you often have to get worse first. They suggest easing off the yeast treatments causing the die-off reactions if the symptoms are too intense and gradually resuming treatments.

    Prevention/Solution

    • The best way to avoid yeast die-off is to not develop a yeast problem in the first place. Some ways to prevent yeast overgrowth is to wear loose-fitting clothing of natural materials, limit perfumed soaps and bubble baths, stick to a low sugar diet (yeast loves sugar) and take probiotic supplements in conjunction with any antibiotic use.
