Pylori Bacteria Symptoms

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria cause peptic ulcers and gastritis by weakening the mucous lining of the stomach and allowing acid to enter and irritate the stomach lining. Helicobacter pylori bacteria are also linked to gastric cancer and gastric MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma. Many people are infected with Helicobacter pylori, but do not have symptoms because it is a slow growing bacterium.
  1. Peptic Ulcer

    • Symptoms of peptic ulcer include abdominal pain, belching, bloody or dark tarry stools, chest pain, tiredness, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, vomiting (may be bloody) and weight loss.

    Gastritis

    • Symptoms of gastritis include abdominal pain, indigestion, dark stools, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting (may be bloody or look like coffee grounds).

    Gastric Cancer

    • Symptoms of gastric cancer include abdominal pain, bad breath, difficulty swallowing, belching, excessive flatulence, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, premature feeling of fullness after eating, unintentional weight loss, vague abdominal fullness, vomiting blood, weakness and tiredness.

Gastric MALT (Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue) lymphoma

    • Symptoms of gastric MALT lymphoma include persistent indigestion, nausea and vomiting (may be specks of blood in the vomit).

    Considerations

    • Because some symptoms of peptic ulcer, gastritis, gastric cancer and gastric MALT lymphoma are very similar, persons experiencing symptoms should take them seriously and consult a doctor.
