What Causes Ring Worm?

Ringworm is a fungal infection that occurs in the top layer of your skin. It is contagious and spread by skin-to-skin contact. It is often recognized by a red, circular rash.
  1. Human Contact

    • Ringworm can transfer from human to human. When someone has ringworm and you have contact with that person, your chance of getting ringworm is high.

    Animal Contact

    • Animals are often a common source of ringworm. When you pet or groom an infected animal, you can catch ringworm.

    Object Contact

    • Ringworm can manifest itself in objects that have been contacted by infected humans or animals. When you touch everyday objects such as doorknobs, beds, or couches that have been contaminated, you may get ringworm.

    Soil Contact

    • Although rare, soil can also be contaminated with ringworm. Fortunately, this is a rare case, and does not usually occur.

    Weak Immune System

    • Having a weak immune system can elevate your chances of contacting ringworm if you have close contact with a human, animal or object that has been contaminated.
