How to Destroy the Human Liver

The liver is responsible for detoxification of everything that goes in and out of your body. It converts foods that you eat into nutrients that feed your body's vital organs, muscles, skin, hair and nails. It is the storehouse for essential vitamins and minerals as well. The liver helps to convert fat into energy and regulate cholesterol levels, and cleans bacteria, pollutants and toxins from your bloodstream in order to help your body maintain overall health. Essentially, your liver is one of the most important organs in your body. Liver problems often go unnoticed, and many people never experience symptoms. However, common ailments that may indicate liver abnormalities include jaundice (yellow skin and eyes), fatigue, blood in the stool and a bloated abdomen.

Expose yourself to pollutants. Your liver is responsible for cleaning pollutants that enter your bloodstream. Ingesting toxic chemicals through your nasal passages, stomach or skin can lead to liver damage. Avoid direct exposure to chemicals such as caustic cleaners, bug bombs, weed killer, fumigation, smoke and other pollutants in order to protect your liver from excessive damage. Wear a mask and gloves to protect yourself when you are around materials that might cause liver damage. In addition, do not smoke and stay away from second-hand smoke.

Combine medications to destroy your liver. Combinations of medications taken with alcohol can cause drug-induced liver injury (DILI). For instance, Tylenol contains acetaminophen, and you should not take it when you are consuming alcoholic beverages. Many prescription drugs recommend avoiding alcohol as well. Be sure to read labels carefully and avoid drinking alcohol while taking any medication at all. Some herbs can cause serious liver damage when mixed with alcohol as well.

Drink heavily to damage your liver. According to the liverfoundation.org, drinking excessively can interfere with your liver's ability to break down fats, carbohydrates and protein. This can lead to a fatty liver (a build-up of fat cells that causes abdominal enlargement), alcoholic hepatitis (liver inflammation that can be deadly), and cirrhosis (irreversible liver damage that can be fatal).

Play with needles or have unprotected sex to cause liver damage. Hepatitis C is a virus transmitted through bodily fluids, primarily blood. You can contract it by sharing needles or through sexual exposure vaginally, orally or anally. When you are infected with hepatitis C, your liver becomes damaged due to constant exposure to viral toxins. It progressively breaks down the organ until it no longer functions optimally. Hepatitis C liver damage is dependent on the speed at which the disease progresses in each individual, and may be affected by a variety of individual factors. Avoid unprotected sex and sharing needles, in particular, to avoid contracting hepatitis C.
