Home Remedy to Get Rid of Kidney Stone Pain
Kidney stones are tiny, thick pieces of mineral and acid salts that form on the outside of the kidneys. Although they usually cause no problems and require no medical intervention, kidney stones can cause agonizing pain until they pass through the urine. They usually are small enough to pass, but the timetable varies as to when. Although medical treatment is typically not advised, some home remedies might speed things up.-
Natural Remedies

Ironically, kidney beans can be used to encourage kidney stones to pass. Boil 2 ounces of kidney beans with the pods removed in 4 quarts of water for six hours. Pour the mixture through cheesecloth or a fine strainer. Allow to cool for eight hours and then strain again. Drink 8 ounces of this mixture every two hours for one full day.
Once a day, drink a soup made of one cup of pomegranate seed and two cups of horse gram, another kind of bean. This helps liquefy the stone.
Drink 2 ounces of lemon juice mixed with 2 ounces of olive oil. Follow this with a large glass of water. This is said to make stones pass within 24 hours.
Cook two medium onions in 12 ounces of water over medium heat until tender. Allow to cool, then blend and strain the juice. Drink this for three days and the stones will begin passing by the second day.
Combine 3 ounces of pineapple juice with 3 ounces of tonic water. Add a pinch each of nutmeg and cinnamon. Drink in morning and at night for four to five days.
Diet
-
Drink two to three quarts of water daily. Avoid alcohol, carbonated drinks, condiments, and pickles. They contain high levels of oxalate, which, combined with calcium, forms the insoluble crystals of kidney stones. Other foods high in oxalate include beans, asparagus, cabbage, cucumber, cauliflower, radish, tomato, rhubarb and spinach. Do not take calcium supplements, which have been linked to a higher rate of kidney stones. Protein may increase calcium, phosphorous, and uric acid in the urine, so choose low-protein foods. Eat foods high in Vitamin B6 or take a daily supplement of 100 to 150 mg. B6 has been shown to help treat kidney stones.
Additional Remedies
-
Stay active to help stones pass and prevent calcium from accumulating in the kidneys. Soak in a warm bath or apply a heating pad to the painful areas. Over-the-counter pain medication may be taken. If the pain is unbearable, your doctor might prescribe a painkiller.
