Vasomotor Rhinitis Symptoms
Vasomotor rhinitis, also called non-allergic rhinitis, is nasal inflammation and affects both children and adults. Symptoms of vasomotor rhinitis are similar to those of allergic rhinitis (hay fever) but are not caused by allergies.-
Symptoms
-
Vasomotor rhinitis symptoms include sneezing, runny nose and congestion. Symptoms may be constant or come and go.
Other Symptoms
-
Vasomotor rhinitis does not usually cause itching. If you suffer from itchy eyes, nose and throat you may have allergic rhinitis instead.
Causes
-
Many things can trigger vasomotor rhinitis symptoms. Causes can include smoke, cooking, air pollution, spicy foods, alcohol, dust mites, stress, certain medications and weather changes.
Treatment
-
For mild symptoms of vasomotor rhinitis, avoid the triggers and use home treatment such as rinsing nasal passages using a bulb syringe. Medications and surgery are available to treat more severe cases.
Considerations
-
Consult your doctor if your vasomotor rhinitis symptoms are severe or if home treatments and over-the-counter medications are ineffective.
