How Often Do You Use Bactroban Nasal Swab for MRSA?

MRSA stands for Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, a durable bacterial infection that can reside in the nasal cavity. When this is the case, Bactroban can be an effective topical treatment.
  1. Composition

    • Bactroban ointment contains the active ingredient mupirocin, which is effective against the MRSA bacteria. This antiobiotic hampers the reproductive behavior of the bacteria, eliminating the presence of MRSA in the nasal passageway.

    Application

    • Apply a small amount of the ointment to your little finger, then spread the medication around the inside of each nostril. Close each nostril for a few seconds to spread the ointment evenly inside the cavity. For infants, use a cotton swab or applicator.

    Frequency

    • Bactroban ointment should be used 2-3 times daily for no more than 10 days. The MRSA should subside within a week. If it is not gone by then, see your doctor.
