Side Effects of Niferex

Niferex is a prescription form of the mineral iron and is used as a dietary supplement to treat iron deficiencies such as anemia. The mineral is important to many of the body's functions and is vital in aiding in the transfer of oxygen into the blood. As with most dietary supplements, there are a number of side effects that can come from using Niferex.
  1. Common Side Effects

    • Common Niferex side effects include nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, darker than normal stools, and temporary staining of the teeth. While these are considered the most common side effects associated with, they only affect a small number of users.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Severe side effects of Niferex include hives, difficulty breathing, tightening of the chest, closing of the throat and swelling of the lips, tongue or face. If you experience any type of allergic reaction during the course of your treatment, stop taking Niverex and seek immediate medical attention.

    Important Safety Information

    • Keep Niferex out of the reach of children. Iron overdose can be fatal in some individuals as iron polysaccharide should never be taken by individuals with a normal iron balance. Please consult with your doctor if you are taking other supplements to ensure that one will not adversely react with the other. If you have hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, or hemolytic anemia, you should never take Niferex as a dietary supplement.

    Usage

    • Follow your doctors orders when taking Niferex. Do not exceed the dosage recommendations written on the label. The drug is administered in tablet form and should be taken with water. For best results, take Niferex on an empty stomach. However, if an upset stomach persists after the first few doses, try taking Niferex with a meal.
