Detox Pads Used on the Stomach
While you've probably heard about using detox foot pads overnight to help eliminate various toxins from your body, you may be wondering if you can use similar pads and place them on other parts of your body like your stomach. The reason the pads are used on the feet is based on reflexology and the idea that there are areas of the feet that correspond to each organ system in the body. As a result, detox pads work by drawing out the wastes from the organs that accumulate in the feet.-
Stomach Detoxification
-
In theory, detox pads can be used on various part of the body, including the stomach. However, there is no conclusive proof that these pads are more effective in removing toxins from the stomach area when placed directly on the stomach.
But there are some companies that sell specially treated detox pads designed specifically to help people overcome a variety of conditions, including stomach issues. For example, there are enhanced grapefruit pads that are designed to help not only with detoxification but also with weight loss. They supposedly work by allowing your skin to absorb pectin, a soluble fiber that can reduce how quickly carbohydrates enter your system. When your body doesn't have to process carbs quickly, it also doesn't have to secrete as much insulin to digest your food, making you much less prone to diseases like diabetes. These grapefruit pads may also reduce water retention, another benefit that can lead to weight loss.
Stomach Conditions
-
According to the companies that sell detox foot pads, you can treat a wide variety of stomach complaints depending on what types of pads you use and where you place them on your feet. For example, if you have acid reflux, you are supposed to place the pads a little bit down from your big toe in order to cover your stomach reflex points. Similarly, if you have ulcerative colitis, a problem that results in colon inflammation, you are supposed to place the pads halfway down the inside of your foot to cover your colon area reflex points.
For stomach disorders like constipation, digestive ulcers, gas, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and stomach cramps, you might try foot pads treated with peppermint, dandelion, black haw, fennel, and licorice. All these ingredients tend to have soothing and healing effects on the digestive tract. Detox foot pads treated with raspberry are also supposed to help with both constipation and diarrhea.
Caution
-
Until more research is done about the effectiveness of detox pads, you should be cautious about believing all the claims of manufacturers. After all, their goal is to convince you to buy their product. Wile there is some evidence that these pads can have a limited effect on detoxifying the soles of your feet, they probably can't draw out all toxins, especially those related to heavy metals, from your skin. In fact, a steam bath or sauna may be more effective in purging internal waste through the pores of your skin. So if you believe your body needs serious cleansing, you're going to have to do more than just use detox pads, since they probably only remove small amounts of waste from your body.
