How to Heal Cirrhosis
Cirrhosis is scarring of the liver most commonly caused by alcoholism and hepatitis. Due to scarring, the liver cannot make protein, fight infections, clean blood, digest food or store energy. Cirrhosis can cause bruising, nosebleeds, swollen legs or abdomen, high blood pressure, enlarged veins in the esophagus and in the stomach and kidney failure. There is no way to heal Cirrhosis but there are treatments to keep the condition from getting worse. The only sure fire way to rid the body of Cirrhosis is a liver transplant, but that is only for a liver that is too scarred to continue to function.

1
Stop drinking alcohol completely. The main cause for Cirrhosis is consumption of alcohol. If you are diagnosed with Cirrhosis, the absolute first step should be to totally stop drinking. If needed, seek treatment options such as Alcoholics Anonymous.
-
2
Do not take any medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, or over-the-counter treatment without discussing them with your doctor. Cirrhosis makes your liver sensitive to some medications.
-
3
Get vaccinated to protect yourself from hepatitis A, hepatitis B, the flu and pneumonia. A weakened liver means a weakened immune system.
-
4
Avoid eating raw shellfish and oysters. They can contain bacteria that can cause severe infections.

Take milk thistle, an alternative, herbal treatment that is believed to help with Cirrhosis and other liver conditions. It may also help lower cholesterol, reduce insulin resistance in people with type 2 diabetes who also have cirrhosis, and reduce breast, cervical, and prostate cancers. Silymarin is extracted from the seeds of the milk thistle plant and made into capsules or a tea. There are, and have been, many studies about milk thistle, but most results have been mixed. It can also cause laxative effects, upset stomachs and allergic reactions.
