Lavaquin Side Effects
Levaquin is an antibiotic medication used in the treatment of bacterial infections of the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder and prostate. This medication has also been used as a treatment method for bacteria that cause bronchitis and pneumonia, as well. As with most antibiotics, there are a number of side effects associated with using Lavaquin.-
Common Side Effects

Side effects from using Lavaquin can include constipation, nausea, diarrhea, restlessness, anxiety, depression, muscle pain, headache, dizziness, sleep problems, mild skin irritation and vaginal itching and discharge. While these are the most common side effects associated with using the drug, they only affect a small number of users.
Severe Side Effects

Unfortunately, there are also some severe side effects associated with using Lavaquin. Some of these side effects include irregular heartbeat, fainting, severe diarrhea, sudden pain and swelling of the joints, confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior, seizures, yellowing of the skin, easy bruising and bleeding, numbness, burning, sore throat, fever and skin rash.

You should not take this medication if you are allergic to levofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones such as ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin or lomefloxacin. Before beginning use of this medication, tell your doctor if you have any of the following: history of allergic reaction to antibiotics, joint problems, liver or kidney disease, seizures, diabetes, low levels of potassium and a family history of Long QT Syndrome.
Usage

Always take Lavaquin exactly as it was prescribed to you and never exceed the dosage instructions written on the label. The medication is administered in pill form and should be taken with eight fluid ounces of water, with or without food. Even if symptoms soon fade, it is important to continue through the entire cycle of the medication to ensure that the bacterial infection is completely gone.
