Significance
-
Symptoms of a panic attack can come on very suddenly and be life altering. Shortness of breath, a feeling of doom, racing heart, sweating, visual disturbances and headaches are all commonly associated with panic and anxiety. Often when the attack begins the woman experiencing it can no longer focus on the task at hand and instead moves her entire focus to what is happening physically during the panic attack. This can drastically interfere with daily activities and her ability to function.
Exercise
-
While there are medications that can be prescribed for panic and anxiety during menopause there are also several non-drug methods that can be tried to alleviate panic attack symptoms before they begin. One recommended method for dealing with panic during menopause is exercise. Exercise provides something to focus on other than the possibility of a panic attack. It also increases endorphins while helping you release excess energy. Whether it is walking, cycling, swimming, dancing or some other form of exercise, the benefit of exercise for managing anxiety is worth the effort.
Massage
-
Many women are turning to massage as a way to deal with menopause induced panic and anxiety. Getting a good massage helps to relax your mind and your body so that stress is alleviated. It is important to work with a licensed masseuse as they are trained to deal with issues of anxiety and how to properly massage it away.
Nutrition
-
Making sure you eat nutritious foods, get plenty of rest and take care of your health can also help alleviate anxiety. Lack of sleep can cause anxiety to increase, which in turn can create a lack of ability to sleep. Try to go to bed at the same time each night, and if needed play relaxing background sounds to help you fall asleep and to stay asleep.
Warning
-
Symptoms of a panic attack can also be similar to a heart attack or other serious condition. It is important to have your symptoms evaluated by a trained medical professional to determine whether there is an underlying medical condition creating the symptoms. Once it is determined that you are having panic attacks, you and your doctor can choose a course of treatment and action for you to take when an attack begins.
