Clobazam Side Effects

Clobazam is part of a group of medications called enzodiazepines that depress the central nervous system of users to reduce anxiety. The drug should only be used in the treatment of severe anxiety and is not meant as a means to alleviate normal nervousness associated with daily life. As with most medications, there are certain side effects associated with using the drug.
  1. Common Side Effects

    • There are a number of common side effects that have been associated with using Clobazam. Some of these side effects include anxiety, sudden confusion, fast or irregular heartbeat and mental depression. While these are considered the most common problems reported with using the drug, they are also very rare and only affect a small number of users.

    Severe Side Effects

    • There are also some severe side effects that have been reported by some users. Some of these side effects include abnormal thinking, agitation, a loss of a sense of reality, decreased inhibition, increased aggression, hallucinations, seizures, hypotension, muscle weakness, unusual bleeding and bruising, nervousness and unusual tiredness and weakness.

    Important Safety Information

    • If you believe that you have or are in the process of becoming mentally dependent on the drug, consult with your doctor for other treatment options. If you have been taking large dosages of the medication for a long period of time, speak with your doctor before discontinuing use for any reason. Never drink alcohol while using Clobazam as it will cause users to experience a heightened state of intoxication.

    Usage

    • Always take the drug in direct conjunction with the instructions given to you by your doctor. Clobazam is administered in pill form and should never be broken up, chewed, or crushed before ingestion. Never take Clobazam in any dosage amount larger than the prescribed amount indicated by the instructions on the label.

      If an overdose is suspected, contact your local poison center and head directly to the closest emergency room.

      Clobazam should only be used in the treatment of anxiety and should never be used recreationally or for any other medical conditions.
