How to Stop Forehead Sweat

Forehead sweating, also known as facial hyperhidrosis, can be irritating, annoying and even embarrassing. According to HyperHidrosisWeb.com, this condition affects about 3 percent of the population. Hyperhidrosis means that you sweat excessively regardless of the temperature. This condition has been linked to social anxiety as well. Read on for some ways to get rid of excessive forehead sweating.
  1. Causes

    • Hyperhidrosis can occur anywhere there are sweat glands; however, it mostly occurs under the armpits, hands and, in some cases, the forehead. The hypothalmus, which controls sweat-related functions, sends a signal from the brain to the sweat nerves. These nerves then send a signal to the sweat glands instructing them to produce sweat. With hyperhydrosis, the sweat glands ignore the signals from the sweat nerves and start producing a lot of sweat.

    Treatment

    • While there is no cure for excessive forehead sweating, there are several ways to control it.

Make sure that your hair is completely off your forehead and avoid using makeup on your face, as both can cause sweating.

Wash your face every night before bed as well as when you wake up in the morning.

Purchase an antiperspirant. If an over-the-counter antiperspirant is not strong enough, visit a doctor to obtain a prescription one. These treatments are generally left on the skin for about six to eight hours.

Botox injections have also been used to treat hyperhidrosis; however, keep in mind that Botox injections tend to be painful and can be costly.

Also, consider Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS), an outpatient procedure that stops overactive sweat glands from producing excessive sweat. Done under a general anesthesia, the patient is asleep during the operation and feels no pain.

Monitor your diet as well. If you are overweight or obese, you may have a tendency to sweat more, which can add to the problem.

Visit your doctor if the problem worsens or continues to be bothersome.
