Prostate Urination Problems

Urinary problems are common with men who have enlarged prostate. Urinary problems can also result in men who surgically received treatment for enlarged prostate. Such problems could also result from prostate surgery operations. There are other reasons why urinary incontinence is common with prostate conditions.Some of the problems come from the weakening on the prostate and its surrounding muscles after the surgery.

  1. What is Prostate Urinary Problem?

    • A normal prostate allows for the free flow of urine through the urinary tract along the way through the penis for excretion. When the prostate gland that sits around the urinary track is inflamed, the pressure reduces urine flow from the bladder through the urinary tract. This syndrome is referred to as an enlarged prostate.

    Frequent Urination

    • Frequent urination is one of the early warning signs of prostate problem in men. As the prostate enlarges, it presses on the urethra causing irritation of the bladder walls. Such irritation makes the bladder walls abnormally contract and forces small amounts of urine out of the bladder.

    Prostate Surgery

    • Prostate surgery, or prostectomy, is often prescribed for men with a significantly enlarged prostate gland. The surgery can lead to a weakening of the nerves and walls of the male urethra. A significant number of men who undergo prostate surgery develop incontinence problems following the operation.

    Male Sling surgery

    • In the case of prostate cancer, a procedure such as male sling surgery may be required. This involves surgical implantation of the male sling inside the prostate gland, which releases compounds that fight the cancer cells and prevents them from growing. This procedure also affects the normal operations of the male urinary glands.

    Temporary Prostate Incontinence

    • Male incontinence following prostate surgery can be temporary. There are many secondary treatment options used by doctors to address this problem. Physical therapies may be required, or a secondary corrective surgery may be recommended. Over time many of the patients treated for prostate-related conditions will see improvements overall relating to their incontinence issues.
