Home Remedies for Inflammation
Inflammation may occur due to a number of reasons including underlying illnesses such as kidney disease or arthritis. Inflammation may also be caused by dehydration, bladder infection or the late stages of pregnancy. Sprains and strains are yet another reason for inflammation. However, relieving inflammation can be achieved quite easily using home remedies.-
Bladder and Kidney Inflammation
-
If you are suffering from bladder or kidney inflammation, drink plenty of cranberry juice until the infection and inflammation have gone away. Cranberry juice is a natural antibiotic, and has advantages over regular antibiotics that sometimes themselves cause other infections, such as yeast infections.
Ginger
-
Ginger (Zingiber officinalis) possesses the same medicinal qualities as NSAIDS such as ibuprofen, which is well known as an anti-inflammatory drug. Ginger supresses the prostaglandins in the body that activate inflammatory responses. Ginger is also used for its antinausea, analgesic and sugar-moderating effects in the body.
Pomegranate Juice
-
Drink three eight-ounce glasses of pomegranate juice every day for relief of general inflammation. The anti-inflammatory effects of pomegranate polyphenols work to reduce swelling by shrinking the tissues that are saturated with excess fluids.
Quercetin
-
An anti-inflammatory compound and histamine inhibitor, quercetin occurs naturally in certain fruits and vegetables and is a powerful phytochemical or nutrient. Excellent sources of quercetin include broccoli, red and yellow onions, red grapes, garlic and apples. Adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet containing this phytonutrient greatly improves inflammatory problems.
Cold Water
-
Swollen and inflamed ankles are soon remedied by plunging them in a bucket of cold water for a few minutes. The cold water shrinks the tissues, giving swift relief to your ankles when you have been on your feet too long or have been sitting down too long accumulating fluids. A brisk walk is a good way to get the circulation going and to eliminate excess fluids from the body that cause swelling.
