Hand Grip Exercises Carpal Tunnel

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition which causes pain, numbness and a general weakening of your wrist and hand. The syndrome is caused by pressure that is placed on the tunnel which protects the main nerve in your hand and fingers. If you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, you can treat the pain with some simple exercises.
  1. Exercise #1

    • Stand up straight and hold your arms in front of you with your palms facing down. Extend your fingers out and bend your wrist back while stretching your fingers. You should feel a stretch in your palm and fingers. Hold this position for five seconds and then lower your wrists and bring your hands back to the neutral position. Then, while keeping your arms stretched out in front of you and your palms down, make a fist with both hands. Bend your wrists downward while keeping your hands in a fist. This will stretch out the top of your hand. Hold this position for a count of five. Bring your hands back to the neutral position and hold them there for an additional count of five. Repeat this exercise 10 times and then let your arms hang down at your sides and shake them out.

    Exercise #2

    • You can also stretch your palm and hand in sections. Hold your right hand out with your palm down. With your left hand grab each finger one by one and stretch them backwards. Hold each finger back for a few beats and then release. Once this has been completed, make a tight fist with the hand and hold for five seconds. Finally, with your palm facing down, bend your thumb under your little finger. With the thumb in this position, turn your palm over and stretch out your fingers. Pull the thumb back out and hold for five seconds. This exercise should be repeated 10 times with both hands.

    Exercise #3

    • This exercise will help the nerve glide through your hand and will help relieve your pain and numbness. Hold your hand upright with your palm out. Curl your fingers down, keeping an open palm, and hold this position for a count of five. After this, curl you palm down to make your hand into a fist. Hold for another five count. Straighten your fingers out while you keep your palm closed. Again, hold this position for a count of five. Then curl your fingers down and rest your finger tips on the bottom of your palm. Hold for a count of five and bring them back to the neutral position. Repeat with both hands.
