Topical Candida Treatment

Candida infections are caused by an abnormally high growth rate of fungal micro-organisms called candida albicans. A number of topical candida treatments are available for candida infections that target the skin and mucous membranes such as the tongue, vagina and fingernails. Following are some pharmaceutical and natural treatment options that are formulated for these infections.
  1. Anti-fungal Creams

    • A number of anti-fungal topical creams are available by prescription and over the counter. These include: miconazole cream, butoconalzole cream and tioconazole cream or ointment.

    Douches

    • Douches that contain a strain of bacteria called acidophilus are an effective topical treatment used to treat candida infections of the vagina such as vaginitis.

    Mouth Rinses

    • Mouth rinses containing anti-fungal ingredients such as tea tree oil are used to treat oral fungal infections.

    Probiotics

    • Probiotic-rich foods such as yogurt are full of good bacteria like lactobacillus acidophilus, which help cure candida infections by normalizing the harmful overgrowth of candida. Natural, unprocessed and unsweetened yogurt applied directly to the vagina is an effective home remedy for candida infections.
